Georgios Koundouriotis {Γεώργιος Κουντουριώτης} (1782-1858) [Santarosa]. One of the most important political figures of the War of Independence, Georgios Koundouriotis took part in the 2nd National Assembly in Astros {Άστρος} in December 1823. He was appointed President of the Executive Body, a position which he held for the duration of the Civil Wars [Civil Wars]. His involvement in the Civil Wars was a decisive factor and his clash with Kolokotronis [People] dealt the Cause a heavy blow.

Early in 1825 he took charge of operations against Ibrahim Paşa. However, his inexperience resulted in a series of failures which led to his resignation.

He was on the side of the anti-Kapodistrians [People]. In 1837 King Otto [People] appointed him Vice-President of the Council of State and after 1843, President of the Senate. In 1848 he formed a government which was unable to deal with problems at home and abroad, and which was replaced by Konstandinos Kanaris' [People] government. He remained loyal to King Otto until he died.
