Villa "Margarita"

Back to where you came from. The same text in Greek.

One of the most impressive buildings in the district of Ambelokipi. Standing at the corner of Mesogion {Μεσογείων} and Vasilissis Sofias {Βασιλίσσης Σοφίας} avenues, it looked like having emerged from a fairy tale world. There now stands the edifice of the National Bank of Greece.

It was built of red hammer-dressed stone in the early 1900's and came under the ownership of Efstathios Lampsas {Ευστάθιος Λάμψας}, an ingenious and rich man, ex royal chef to King Georgios I {Γεώργιος Α'} [People], successful businessman and hotelier of "Grande Bretagne" The link opens in a new window. ({Megali Vretannia ~ Μεγάλη Βρεταννία} = Great Britain) Hotel.

It consisted of 32 rooms, turrets, scenic edges that looked like crenellations, a dome with a lightning arrestor, dense-flowered gardens, etc.
