The island of Samos {Σάμος} [Flags] [Epicurus] [Konstandinos Kanaris] [Andreas Miaoulis] [The Tram] was officially united with Greece on March 2nd, 1913. The image below shows the cover of a cigarette case which bears the inscription "The S.C. Chryssas genuine Turkish Cigarettes made in Samos, Turkey. Established in 1894."
On the inside of the case, one can read the following english text:
"The High Class Turkish Cigarettes
S.C.
S. Chryssas Samos - Turkey
Gentlemen,
Owing to the privilidges, which the island of Samos, enjoys and which were granted by the
Sultans of Turkey, as well as to its situation near the countries, where Turkish tobacco
is cultivated, I can make my cigarettes from the choiest turkish tobaccos and successfully
compete with the Egyptian ones, selling mine at more than 25% cheaper. My cigarettes,
being hand made, are preferred and smoked throughout all the world, as much for their
excellent quality as for their elegant make.
